Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) is available January 1, 2008, as an optional coverage for most Hastings Mutual Businessowners and Commercial Package Policy policyholders with up to 250 employees.

Available claims-made liability policy limit choices range from $50,000 to $1,000,000.

EPLI could protect a business owner from the financial consequences of an employment-related lawsuit. Discrimination and sexual harassment claims are the most common complaints. Most business policies do not cover employment-related lawsuits. Not only does EPLI provide financial protection from a variety of employment-related lawsuits, it also covers defense costs. Hastings Mutual is proud to provide our EPLI policyholders critical tools* to minimize their Employment Practices Liability exposures. The program includes two important free services.


  • A free hotline to an exclusive EPLI specialist law firm, Foster Swift. This hotline provides an excellent opportunity to obtain general information about a broad range of subjects. For example, the hotline can offer direction on proper steps to take when investigating employee grievances or to determine whether the FMLA or State leave laws apply to your company and how they should be administered.
  • Our EPLI policyholders will have access to an Internet-based, loss control platform. This website provides practical guidance and employment management forms and tools. The site offers a wide range of topics that help you evaluate risk exposure levels, while privately and proactively reducing exposure. The website allows access to several tools the business owner needs to prevent and manage workplace wrongdoing while building strong defenses against litigation.
